On the Power of Community in the Climate Movement

Registration is closed for this event
with Elson Bankoff, Friends Council on Education

Quaker youth are actively engaged with activism and reflection on climate issues across a range of Friends’ high schools. Join QEW in welcoming Elson Bankoff to share about the Student Environmentalism and Sustainability Network on Friday April 21, 2023 from 7-8:30 PM on Zoom.

She is currently a high school senior at Sidwell Friends School and will be attending Harvard University next fall. She is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Ecosystemic Magazine, a youth-run environmental action journal. She also has organized multiple climate strikes with Fridays For Future. This summer Elson spearheaded the production of a play on climate themes called If the Bells Would Ring. The play, written and directed by Elson, went on to sell out all three of its shows at The Tank during New York City Climate Week. Elson also runs Sidwell's environmental action club and enjoys leading meetings and summer programs to teach people of all ages about climate action. She is excited to discuss her accomplishments, journey, and experience navigating interdisciplinary activism.

This presentation and discussion will take place during our spring Steering Committee meeting. If you are registered to attend the Steering Committee Meeting (April 20-23), there is no need to register for Elson’s talk. However, we are inviting those in the QEW network to join this talk, even if you do not plan to attend the rest of the Steering Committee meeting – please register for the talk Here.
